A 43-year-old man, Rabiu Yusuf, has been arrested for the murder of his 10-year-old son.

Yusuf, a resident of Maina Maji, Alkaleri LGA of Bauchi State, reportedly chained his son for 10 days to prevent him from escaping to his estranged wife.

Police spokesperson, DSP Haruna Mohammed, confirmed the incident, saying that the suspect conspired with one Ismail Idris to kill the boy.

Mohammed stated that the boy was chained by his father for 10 days and eventually fell sick as a result of the ill treatment and was taken to the Rimi Clinic in Bauchi where he died.

While being paraded by the police, Yusuf admitted that he was responsible for the death of his son, Aliyu Rabiu, but added that he did not know that the boy would die in chains.

He said: “I divorced his mother and married another woman so Aliyu followed his mother to her new home but I did not accept that arrangement. I called him home several times because I wanted him to be in my custody but he refused, so I went to the mother’s place with annoyance and brought him back home”.

“Back in my house, I chained him and locked him up in a room so that he wouldn’t escape but unfortunately, he died,” he added.

Mohammed added that the case is under investigation after which the two men, Yusuf and Idris, will be charged to court.
