The Presidential Taskforce on COVID-19 gives reasons for recent low numbers of confirmed cases | 5 Things that Should Matter Today

The Presidential Taskforce on the coronavirus pandemic has given reasons why low numbers of confirmed cases have been recorded in Nigeria in recent times.

The task force team, led by its chairman and secretary to the government of the federation, Boss Mustapha, presented its interim report to the President. The team had on Monday announced an extension of the current phase two eased lockdown by one week which elapses tomorrow August 6.

Furthermore, Mustapha attributed the low number of confirmed cases to the reduced number of testing due to recent the Salah holiday.

The United States government says members of the deadly Al-Qaeda insurgent group have started penetrating the North-Western part of Nigeria. News sources reports that Dagvin Anderson, commander of the US special operations command, Africa, made this known during a press briefing. According to the report, Anderson said.

We will retrieve N96bn stolen under Ajimobi – Makinde 

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state has promised to retrieve the N96bn allegedly stolen during his predecessor, late Abiola Ajimobi’s administration. The Governor who made the promise at an event to kickstart the construction of the 21km Ajia-Airport-New Ife expressway road in Ajia town, said the retrieved funds would be used to develop the state’s infrastructure.

He also addressed the criticism his administration has faced since announcing that they will be issuing a N100m bond. Makinde was quoted saying in a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary Taiwo Adisa.

WAEC released 2020 WASSCE results

The West African Examinations Council has released the timetable for the 2020 West African Senior School Certificate Examination. The examination date and timetable for West African exit students was released on August 4. The examination will start from Monday, August 17, 2020, and it will be completed on September 7, 2020.
