Social media has been ablaze with debates around tribe and religion in the last 48 hours, talking points generated from the controversy where Bello El-Rufai, son of the governor of Kaduna Nasir El Rufai, threatened to gang-rape someone’s mother on Twitter, couched in ethnic bigotry against the Igbos.
It led to the Brittle Paper fall out with its former deputy editor Otosirieze Obi-Young and spurred more conversations on intra-religious bigotry where Northern Muslims discriminate against Yoruba Muslims. Enthoreligious sentiments is commonplace in Nigeria, young Nigerians on social media espousing the same worldview like the old generations.
It’s 2020 and we are supposed to past this.
