TICKER: Hip Hop Mogul Chris Lighty dies from apparent suicide

Chris Lighty, a major figure in the hip hop music industry, is dead after shooting himself.  During an argument with his ex-wife in the Bronx, sources say that Lighty suddenly decided to take his own life.

Lighty had managed major artists like 50 Cent, Diddy, Ja Rule and Mariah Carey.   He and his wife Veronica had been arguing before the sucide in their South Riverdale apartment Thursday morning.

Lighty was not only dealing with divorce, but also found out that he owes about $5 million to the IRS.  He is the founder of Violator Management, which merged with another company prior to his divorce.

“R.I.P. Chris Lighty,” Fat Joe said on Twitter. “That man saved my life.”

Other artists that have been on the roster of Violator Management include: Busta Rhymes, Q-Tip, Missy Elliott, Fantasia, Mýa, Diggy Simmons, Cormega, Ja Rule, Mobb Deep, LL Cool J, and Nas
