For a man who truly came into his own on reality television, surrounded by LGBT make up artists, hair stylists, script writers, actors, directors (you get the gist), Donald Trump really doesn’t seem to care one lick about how they live or die. He cares so little that after several warnings from American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), several other human rights organisations and influencers including Caityln Jenner, he’gone right ahead to start the very thing his warners feared: targeting LGBT people and repealing their basic rights.

Donald Trump, in a bid to get his racist wall built, has signed into law an executive order banning transgender people from serving in the American armed forces. Considering that there are currently 15,000 active transgender service men and women, most of whom came out after President Barack Obama signed into the law the edict that dismantled the ‘Dont Ask Don’t Tell’ law that only marginally allowed LGBT people serve in the US military provided they hid their sexualities. What is even worse is that Donald Trump announced this new ban via Twitter, without any context or a proper explanation why.

When Donald Trump first started his witch hunt against Muslims in the first months of 2017, many White Americans publicly supported him, suggesting that he was purging their country of violent immigrants. Then he came for women and Planned Parenthood, the government funded non-profit that ensured all women had access to reproductive health care. Americans narrowed it down to a fight against ‘abortion’, and called it a day.

This new law against transgender people is not only an extension of the of the iceberg, it is a law that finally affects the white Americans in a place where they can’t ignore. White trans people are far more likely to come out than any other ethnicity and the military was often a safe place for them to get an education and health care and valuable life skills.

Of course, Trump’s new move is disgusting but it will finally make these people who consider themselves white and superior wake up and see just how much trouble America is in.

We can only hope that they do.
