Dangote offers to sell 650,000 bpd oil refinery to NNPCL

Nigerian billionaire and business tycoon Aliko Dangote has revealed his decision to sell his 650,000 bpd oil refinery to the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) due to the inability to source crude oil from international companies as they demand absurd premiums or deny that they have the product available for sale.

The 650,000 barrel-per-day oil refinery, announced to Nigerians late last year after years of delayed construction, has thrown in the towel as the owner, Dangote, is willing to give up his ownership to the state-owned oil refinery company, NNPCL.

“Let them (NNPCL) buy me out and run the refinery the best way they can. They have labelled me a monopolist. That’s an incorrect and unfair allegation, but it’s okay. If they buy me out, at least, their so-called monopolist would be out of the way,” Dangote said.
