#EndBadGovernance Protest: Tinubu addresses protesters, reads leaked speech and lists achievements
The President of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, addressed the nation on Sunday, August 4, regarding the country’s #EndBadGovernance and #EndHunger protests. Still, his speech had been leaked the night before he addressed the nation.
On the night of August 3, the President’s speech was leaked to the public. When he (Tinubu) addressed the public, the people were furious because he did not address why the people were angry at his administration and demanded that they seize the protest and give him time to do his job.
The President went on to list the achievements of his administration and how he believed that he was repairing, albeit threatening the protesters, claiming that those who sought trouble would be treated with equal energy by the right forces.
#EndBadGovernance Protest: Nigerians begin to queue for fuel as marketers refuse to sell
Several states in Nigeria are experiencing fuel shortages as Nigerians have begun queueing for fuel due to the pause in supply from petroleum dealers who have chosen to halt their delivery and risk losing their assets to the ongoing #EndBadGovernance protest in the country.
Oil Marketers have tried to console Nigerians who continue to queue for fuel as the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) explained that there has been a “hitch in the discharge operations of a couple of vessels.”
Protesters in Plateau threaten business owners as Lagos, Gombe, and Abuja seize protest
The protest leaders in Plateau, Osun and Edo States have informed Nigerians that they will be continuing the #EndBadGovernance protest and warned those in Plateau State on Monday, August 5, and whoever was not interested in participating in Jos, was not to open their shops as they would risk it being looted.
In the same view, Lagos, Abuja, Gombe, and Jigawa have returned to normalcy as they announced a two-day protest break, allowing dialogue between the government and the protest organisers.
The Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Muftwang, aimed to curb the ongoing protest in his state and imposed a 24-hour curfew on his residents in Jos and Bukuru. This curfew comes after the reports of vandalisation and looting in the Bauchi Road community and Zolo Junction.
Federal government releases ₦570 billion grant to states
The federal government has released ₦570 billion to all states to combat and expand the people’s livelihood in their respective states.
The President mentioned that he was working on ways to reduce the hardship of the people as he claimed to hear their cries and lamentations regarding hunger and suffering; therefore, distributing ₦570 billion to all 36 states was one of the many solutions he could think of that would aid in supporting the people in the country.
The President also stated in his Sunday speech that the country mainly depends on oil and gas, but he came into power and met an administration that had neglected the gas sector and only gained from the oil. He promised that with the plans he had in place, Nigerians would no longer have to pay so much for fuel as there would be gas-focused vehicles that would ease people’s transport fares.
UK descends into chaos as Europeans begin riots, demanding the return of all UK immigrants
The United Kingdom has descended into chaos as its people, who Prime Minister Keir Starmer has described as “far-right activists”, are clamouring for the return of all immigrants in the country, citing the rising cost of living and lack of jobs in the country.
The people of the UK have revealed their racist personalities, going as far as setting a hotel which houses illegal immigrants in Rotherham on fire, overpowering the security guards and taking to the streets to let their voices be heard.
The rioters have also set fire to a Holiday Inn Express Hotel in Tamworth, as it also houses asylum seekers in the UK. The United Kingdom is witnessing what might be one of its most violent protests and riots in recent decades as people of colour are being warned to hide away in their homes.
