FG: Subsidy removal funds used for infrastructure, human capital

The Federal Government has clarified that funds saved from the removal of petrol subsidy are being used to develop infrastructure and build human capital across the country.
Speaking through the Minister of State for Finance, Nkiruka Uzoka-Anite, President Bola Tinubu said the redirected funds are financing social interventions, public transport improvements, and critical infrastructure projects.
Since the subsidy was scrapped in 2023, monthly allocations from the federation account have surged from ₦9 billion under the previous administration to an average of ₦1.6 trillion, now shared among federal, state, and local governments.
NiMet issues flash flood alert for 19 states in July

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has warned that 19 states, including Kaduna, Lagos, and others, face a heightened risk of flash flooding in July due to increased rainfall levels.
Sokoto was flagged as a high-risk area, while other states with notable risk include Zamfara, Yobe, Bauchi, Bayelsa, Jigawa, Adamawa, Taraba, Niger, Nasarawa, Benue, Ogun, Ondo, Delta, Edo, Cross River, Rivers, and Akwa Ibom.
NiMet urged residents in the affected areas to take precautionary steps such as clearing drainage systems and relocating from flood-prone zones where necessary.
Africa focused on poverty and climate, not nuclear arms – Shettima

Vice-President Kashim Shettima has said that Africa’s urgent priorities are tackling poverty and climate change, not pursuing nuclear weapons capability.
He made the statement on Monday during a meeting with Robert Floyd, Executive Secretary of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organisation (CTBTO), at the State House in Abuja.
Shettima assured that Africa has no interest in nuclear weapons testing, stating, “We are fighting poverty and the war between the economy and ecology in sub-Saharan Africa. We have no business dabbling in anything that has to do with nuclear weapons.”
Festus Keyamo reveals that FG running Enugu airport at a loss

Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, says the federal government is currently operating the Enugu airport at a loss due to a lack of private sector efficiency.
Speaking on Monday at the launch of Enugu Air, Keyamo noted that plans are underway to concession the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, with the process still in the proposal evaluation stage.
He added that the move, backed by President Bola Tinubu and key aviation stakeholders, aims to bring in private investors to revamp the airport and its cargo terminal for improved operations.
Trump imposes 10% tariff on pro-BRICS nations

U.S. President Donald Trump has announced a 10% tariff on countries aligning themselves with the “anti-American policies of BRICS,” the economic bloc comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.
“There will be no exceptions to this policy,” Trump stated in a post on Truth Social, reaffirming his administration’s tough stance on nations he perceives as undermining U.S. global influence.
The announcement comes as Washington begins formally notifying affected countries, with official letters and trade terms expected to be dispatched starting Monday. Trump, a longstanding critic of BRICS, has often accused the bloc of promoting a multipolar world order at odds with American interests.
