Nigerians protest 28% price hike on DisCos meter
Nigerians have begun to lament about the 28% increase in the price of Discos meters after electricity companies announced a price hike for the second time in four months.
Nigerians have raised their voices against the price hike, stating that the DisCos have no empathy for Nigerians in this economy.
According to reports, the new price for a single-phase meter is now ₦149,800 from ₦117,000, showcasing a ₦32,800 increase. Each Distribution Company is said to have different prices for their meters.
Oil marketers take their battles with Dangote to court, demand access to petrol import
Three oil marketers, identified as AYM Shafa Limited, A. A. Rano Limited, and Matrix Petroleum Services Limited have requested the Federal High Court in Abuja to waive the suit filed by Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals.
The marketers argued that accepting the suit filed by Dangote would do nothing but bring harm to the country’s oil sector due to Dangote’s plan to monopolise the oil sector in Nigeria.
“The import licenses lawfully and validly issued to the defendants did not, in any way whatsoever, cripple the plaintiff’s business or its refinery,” the three oil marketers stated.
CBN permits banks to trade with deposited foreign exchange
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has approved of the free foreign exchange deposit window by releasing guidelines to all banks implementing the new policy.
The guidelines released by the CBN offer modalities for the participation of all commercial, merchant, and non-interest banks in Nigeria.
“Commercial, merchant, and non-interest banks may trade with any deposited ITFC (Internationally Tradable Foreign Currencies) not immediately invested by a participant, provided that the funds would be made available to the participant when needed,” the guidelines read in part.

Lagos-Calabar highway: Property owners reject the ₦18 billion compensation offer
The property owners who suffered huge losses due to the construction of the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway have rejected the ₦18 billion compensation offer by the federal government.
The property owners have called it insufficient and compared the real estate value of their lost properties.
One of the landowners claimed that his property was worth over ₦400 million but only received ₦3.3 million from the federal government. Many other properties worth hundreds of millions were watered down with insufficient offers from the federal government, leading to the rejection of the offer.
