NNPC raises price of petrol to ₦1,025 and ₦1,060
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) has once again raised the price of petrol in Nigeria for the second time in a month.
Three weeks ago, the NNPC increased the price of petrol to ₦998 in Lagos State and ₦1,030 for Abuja. However, in a recent report, the price of petrol per litre for Lagos is ₦1,025 and ₦1,060 for Abuja.
Nigerians are terrified that this may not be the end of petrol hikes as the inflation in the country does not seem to reduce but instead rises, forcing everyone to live in hardship by abandoning their vehicles and taking public transport.
Dangote reveals he has 500 million litres of petrol but retailers are not purchasing
Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote announced that he has about 500 million litres of petroleum to end fuel scarcity in Nigeria, but the retailers are refusing to buy from him.
The CEO of Dangote Group revealed this news in a meeting with the President of Nigeria, Bola Tinubu, saying that petrol retailers are not buying the available oil that he has stored in his tank.
“…But what I’m saying is that the retailers should please come forward and pick. If they don’t come forward and pick, what do you want me to do? There is nothing that I can do,” he said.
“I am expecting the NNPC or the marketers to stop importing, they should come and pick because we have what they need.”
Sanwo-Olu asks court to refrain EFCC from arresting him after his tenure
The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has requested that the Federal High Court in Abuja refrain the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) from arresting after his tenure comes to an end on May 28, 2027.
The governor filed a fundamental rights suit in the court, stating that he was “entitled to the right to private and family life as a minimum guarantee encapsulated under the Constitution of the Republic of Nigeria, before, during, and after the occupation of a public office created by the constitution.”
Sanwo-Olu claimed that the EFCC threatening to arrest him after his tenure was humiliating and that the court should restrain the agency from detaining, interrogating, harassing, intimidating, or prosecuting him in relation to his position as a governor of Lagos State.
Minister of Power promises to return electricity to 17 Northern states by November
The federal government, through the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has promised that 17 Northern states in Nigeria will no longer experience blackouts by November 12.
The Minister of Power affirmed that he and the federal government were working around the clock to ensure that electricity was returned to the 17 states within two weeks after the President called his attention to the blackout in these states.
However, the minister’s declaration is different from the Transmission Company of Nigeria’s (TCN) announcement that the blackout will be resolved within the next five days.
Alex Ikwechegh tenders apology to assaulted Bolt driver
The member of the House of Representatives, Alex Ikwechegh, who was filmed assaulting a Bolt driver in Abuja has received heavy backlash on the internet as he was called out to receive necessary punishment for his abuse of flagrant power.
The lawmaker issued a public apology at a plenary hearing, saying that irrespective of whatever had transpired between him and the Bolt driver, he was wrong for assaulting him. He added that he was full of regret for his actions as they were unbecoming of him and for someone in his position.
“I just want to state, once again, that I am human. Things were said, and those things were regretted. I apologise to all Nigerians. Regardless of the provocation, there should be no reason why I should react in that form,” he said.
