President Bola Tinubu has come out to clear the air about the misconstrued thoughts concerning his reasons for being in the position of power in Nigeria today.

The President at the Forum of Former Presiding Officers of the National Assembly, led by former Senate President Ken Nnamani, said he was focused on giving Nigeria a better name and building a better future for Nigerians by improving the country’s infrastructures, security, energy, food, and more.

“I didn’t come to look for money and exploit the situation; I came to work. I asked for the votes, and Nigerians gave them to me,” Tinubu said.

“Yes, there is hardship, but how did we get here? What did we do when we had very high crude production?” he queried.

The Nigerian official currency, Naira, has been ranked among the ten worst-performing currencies in the world due to its poor economic development in the past months.

According to a report published by Bloomberg, there are ten worst-performing currencies from Africa, and the naira is listed among them. Bloomberg attributed the drop in the value of these currencies to several reasons, some of which are inflation, lack of dollar liquidity and more.

Keonethebe Bosigo, portfolio manager at Mazi Asset Management, spoke on the naira’s downfall, saying, “The real issue is that the naira wasn’t allowed to adjust, which led to its overvaluation and a subsequent loss of confidence in the currency.”

Police apprehend armed political thugs ahead of Edo State Gubernatorial election

    The Nigerian Police Force has announced their success in capturing some armed political thugs who plan to disrupt the Edo State Gubernatorial election, which is slated to occur today, September 21, 2024.

    ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to declare that the NPF had captured criminals on Saturday morning to eliminate the state of crime during the election.

    The Edo State Gubernatorial election is between three candidates, Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party (LP), Asue Ighodalo of the PDP, and Monday Okpebholo of the APC.

    Minister of State and Defence accused of connection to terrorism in Nigeria

    The Minister of State and Defence, Bello Matawalle, has been accused of having connections with terrorists in the country.

    The accusations state that the Minister has provided vehicles during his service as the governor of Zamfara State for bandit leaders, one of which is Bello Turji.

    The incumbent Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, advised Bello Matawalle to resign during his appearance and interview on television, TVC.

    “If I were him, I would resign and face all the allegations against me because, from all the information we are getting, my predecessor was fully involved in some of this banditry,” Dauda said.

    CBN clarifies its reasons behind the cybersecurity levy placed on bank customers’ accounts

    The Central Bank of Nigeria CBN) has affirmed its stance on its recently published Monetary Policy Circular, after several reports of misinformation spreading around the internet.

    The apex bank has since deleted the published circular from its website, saying that the controversial cybersecurity levy placed on Nigerians is suspended.

    According to a report, the CBN discovered that there are new directives linked with old and outdated policies like the cybersecurity levy and fuel subsidy controversy.
