Doomed rescue: Responding deputies broke the rear window of the SUV, and one of them climbed inside, only to discover that the infant had died

The tragic incident unfolded Monday at around 3.20pm when officials with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department received a frantic call from a man reporting that he may have left his son in his SUV.

Officers rushed to the house in the 19000 block of Cliveden Avenue in Carson and found the red Chevy Tahoe parked in the driveway of a home with all its windows up.

A cell phone video recorded at the scene and later aired by KTLA captured the responding officers breaking a window in the vehicle, and one of them climbing inside.

Police found the 5-month-old baby still strapped in his car seat and unresponsive. The temperature in Carson at the time was about 74 degrees.

Paramedics who were called to the scene made attempts to resuscitate the infant, but it was too late. It was not clear how long the boy was in the SUV.

The child’s father, a security guard, reportedly left the 5-month-old inside the red Chevy while he went inside the house earlier, the station KCAL reported.

Some time later, the dad left again, but took a different car. No other family members were home at the time.

When the father realized that he may have accidentally forgotten his son in the backseat of the vehicle, he called police.
