Troops rescue 605 hostages, kill 17 boko haram insurgents

The commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, Major-General Lucky Irabor on Wednesday said troops have rescued 605 persons from Boko Haram insurgents in Sambisa forest.

He said this while briefing newsmen at the headquarters in Maiduguri.

He said troops have recorded success in the last one week while clearing the Sambisa forest.

Irabor said 17 Boko Haram insurgents were killed while 605 hostages including children and women were rescued.

“These victims who have been rescued include, 69 adult male, 180 adult female, 227 male children and 229 female children.” he added.

He also said weapons and huge amount of money were recovered from the insurgents.

He also said that Boko Haram fighter that have been arrested are in the custody of the Nigerian army where they’re being taking care of, and will subsequently be counseled before they are reintegrated into the society.
