Britain’s exit from the European Union was confirmed Friday morning after results of the nation-wide referendum were announced.
While many are shocked by this development, some are optimistic even as the United Kingdom’s currency, Pound Sterling begins to nosedive.
Here are the opinions expressed via Twitter – most of which are that the United Kingdom has now become a ‘divided kingdom’.
What a sad, sad day. #Brexit

No matter the outcome, #Brexit polls demonstrate how quickly half of any population can be convinced to vote against itself. Quite a lesson.

Our young people voted to stay in the EU. They are the future. We have let them down. #Brexit

#Brexit is what happens when xenophobic anti-intellectualism goes large. It feels alarmingly foretelling.

I think #Brexit proves that the British people are still able to think for themselves, and not be misled by pompous Economists & journalists

A disturbing % of young people didn’t vote and now they have to live with the consequences for 60+ years. The moral of the story is…#brexit

Morning looks like a rebranding is needed as there is no United Kingdom. Deeply divided we stand as the stock market falls.
— Mel & River (@MJCounselling) June 24, 2016
“United Kingdom”
There is nothing United about us. We were successfully divided and now it’s been taken a step further.
