A BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) bus has been involved in an accident, involving an Army officer at Obanikoro axis of Ikorodu road.

The BRT bus hit the officers’ car after suffering a brake failure, which led it to crash into the vehicle at its front.

The BRT bus driver said he noticed that he had lost control of the brake about 800metres before crashing into the miltary man’s vehicle.

This is the second incident involving the Army and a BRT bus in recent time. On 4 July, a BRT bus hit and killed a soldier riding a motorcycle, around Onipanu bus stop, of the same Ikorodu road.

The irate soldiers subsequently took law into their hands by burning down several BRT buses in the area. The Lagos state govenment would later set up a Tribunal to investigate the circumstances which led to the incident.

As at last sitting on Thursday, 19 September, the tribunal granted to the army the opportunity to recall its three witnesses of the previous sitting, following a request made by the army legal team, led by Lt. Col. Hycinth Ande, who pointed out that the army was not legally represented when the witnesses gave their evidence due to administrative hiccups.

Meanwhile, Abiodun Apata, Project Manager, Mutual Model Transport, in his testimony, had stated that a tracking device was installed on Bus MO63, which was involved in the accident that led to the soldier’s death.

He said that the record from the tracker corroborated the testimony of the driver, Zaccheus Folorunsho, that the soldier had rammed his motorcycle against the stationary bus, as opposed to the Army’s claims that the BRT bus hit the soldier.
