We never impeached Omirin, he’s still our Speaker – #Ekiti PDP lawmakers

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmakers in the Ekiti State House of Assembly have stated that the embattled Dr Adewale Omirin is still the speaker of the assembly.

The PDP lawmakers insisted that 10 of them sat on Monday, but did not impeach Omirin as speaker, saying that they never “contemplated any removal nor harboured sinister intention against him.”

The lawmakers made the disclosure while receiving market women and other community leaders who came to pay them solidarity visit on Wednesday, 19 November.

Five of the lawmakers— Honourables Dele Olugbemi, Leader of Government Business; Samuel Ajibola; Ayo Fatumbi Ajibade; Mrs Abeni Olayinka and Adeyinka Adeloye received the market women from the 16 local government areas of the state led by its chairperson, Chief (Mrs) Olabisi Okunmolade.

While commenting on the Speaker’s status, Ajibola said: “He (Omirin) still remains our speaker, as we never impeached him. What we did on Monday was in the interest of Ekiti people. They should not use the assembly to destabilise Ekiti and that was what we were against.”

“We want to say that if Omirin comes back to the assembly today, we will embrace him and work with him harmoniously. So, I don’t think there is any crisis in the assembly.”

The lawmaker would also reveal that three lawmakers of the All Progressives Congress (APC) were already working with them, adding that they were in “serious dialogue which has reached advanced stage for the defection of six more APC lawmakers into the PDP’s fold.”

He said: “As we speak now, three of the 19 APC lawmakers are cooperating with us administratively and three others will join us soon.”

Speaking in a similar vein, Fatumbi said “we were not elected to come and give any governor any problem. Ekiti cannot progress while in crisis or when the assembly is under locks and key. Our members in APC must come home and work to justify their pay.”

Olayinka pleaded with all stakeholders to rally support for Fayose, saying: “I belonged to the APC, but when Ekiti people said they wanted Fayose, I have to support him.”
