Sixteen suspected illegal bunkers have been arrested by the Joint Military Taskforce (JTF) operating in Abbbi, Kwale and Obiaruku communities in Delta State.

The suspects were allegedly caught with barrels of illegal oil including bunkering apparatus when JTF operatives closed in on them in the thick forest of Okpai community on Wednesday.

The Delta State police public relations officer, DSP Celestina Kalu, confirmed the arrest of the suspects, adding that over 50 illegal refineries have been destroyed by the Taskforce operatives in the last three weeks.

Kalu disclosed that upon interrogation, the suspects confessed to the crime, saying that they have been involved in illegal oil bunkering in the last six years for lack of employment.
