Amaechi to blame for insecurity in Rivers – Wike

Governor of Rivers state, Nyesom Wike has blamed his predecessor Rotimi Amaechi for the insecurity in the state.

Wike made the claim on Sunday at Saint Andrew’s Anglican Church, Amadi-Ama in Okrika local government area of the state, during a thanksgiving service in honour of Ma. Patience Tam-George.

The 85-year-old Ma Tam-George, who is mother of the state commissioner of Information and Communications, Dr. Austin Tam-George, was abducted in February, 2016, by gunmen in the community, and freed six days after.

Wike who was represented by the secretary to the state government, Hon. Kenneth Kobani said he has put measures in place to curb crime and violence.

However, the publicity secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Senibo Chris Finebone, described the governor’s statement as lie.

Finebone said, “That is the most preposterous story to tell. Anybody who lived in Rivers State when Amaechi was governor agreed that Amaechi gave his all to fight insecurity in the state.

“It is possible that Kenneth Kobani, who had gone on self-exile, did not come down to experience quiet and secured Rivers State then.

“He never lived in Rivers State during the time Amaechi was governor. So, he (Kobani), who represented Governor Wike at that event, spoke from the angle of lack of experience.”
