EFCC to arraign Obanikoro in November

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has started plans to arraign former Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro, Punch reports.

Obanikoro has been in the agency’s custody since last week when he arrived Nigeria to honour the commission’s invitation.

The former minister is being investigated for allegedly receiving N4.7bn from the Office of the National Security Adviser in 2015.

Obanikoro was said to have received the money through Sylva McNamara, a company owned by his two sons.

A source in the agency confirmed his possible arraignment but did not specify what charges will be filed against him.

The source added, “He would be arranged in court for the disbursement of some of the funds traced to the account of Silva McNamara.

“I can’t say the exact charges but definitely, his case has to do with how some of the N4.7bn, traced to the account of the company, was spent.”

Obanikoro also reportedly admitted to have given a fraction of the funds to Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose for his campaign and also Iyiola Omisore of Osun State who lost his governorship bid.
