The Film Blog: ‘This Is It’ has our attention, and Lowladee is a quiet storm

Nigeria’s film industry will be great(er). There is no doubt. It is a logical impossibility for that to not be the case, given the sheer number of people creating and releasing great work today.

Take, for example, Dolapo Adeleke, a young filmmaker working under the name “LowlaDee”. In the past 2 years she’s worked on and released two short movies; the AMVCA-nominated ‘Brave’ and ‘A Place Called Happy’.

And now she’s gone and created one of the buzziest web-series to hit the Nigerian corner of the internet in recent time.

web-official‘This Is It’ follows a pair of newlyweds through the first year (or first 6 months, for the first season) of their marriage and starts Nick Mutuma (of Shuga fame) and newcomer (to us, at least) Chiagoziem Nwakanma. And while some friends of ours might have been a bit lukewarm on it, but we think it’s genuinely good stuff.

But don’t just take our word for it. Numbers don’t lie, right? in the one month since the show began airing on Youtube, the 8 episodes released so far have amassed a collective total of close to 300,000 views, which is basically a billion in Nigerian web-series numbers.

One to watch? We say yes.
