Taegrin Morris, a four-year-old boy was dragged to death on Saturday night after being trapped by his seat-belt in a car which was stolen by hijackers while his mother screamed helplessly as the car sped away as the crying boy dangled out of the door.

His devastated mother, Chantel Morris said her son’s last words were “Mommy help me”, as he struggled to free himself before the car sped off with caught by the seat-belt.

Chantel had only just put Taegrin and his eight-year-old sister her Volks-Wagon Golf car outside their grandmother’s house in Boksburg east of Johannesburg when three hijackers held guns to her head.

“I asked them to let me get my children out, they could take whatever they wanted, but please let me have my children. I went to the back to pull out Taegrin,” Morris said.

However, her daughter as able to successfully exit the car, but as the mother tried to free the boy from his seatbelt his foot became stuck and the impatient hijackers sped off.

Despite Chantel and other witnesses screaming and running after the speeding car, the criminals refused to stop. The car was later found four kilometres away, with the boy’s battered body next to it.

Johannesburg Police have offered a reward of 50,000 rand ($5,000) for information leading to the arrest of the hijackers.
