Health Ministry budgets N297m for ‘computer printers’, N6m for ‘computers’

One of the questionable appropriations in the 2016 budget is in the Federal Ministry of Health, where the amount earmarked for computer printers is N203 million more than what was allocated for the purchase of computers.

The headquarters of the Health Ministry, in its 2016 budget, plans to spend a whooping sum of N297,354,194 on the purchase of computer printers.

The ministry will however, spend N6,663,104 on the purchase of computers while another N29, 364, 034 was earmarked for office stationery and computer consumables.

Meanwhile, another eye-popping figure in the 2016 Appropriation Bill is the federal government’s allocation of N3, 653, 577, 943 for the maintenance of the Presidential Air Fleet (PAF).

The Presidential Air Fleet, which is under the jurisdiction of the National Security Adviser, has attracted the public attention due to the amount of money spent in the management and running of the fleet.

The presidential air fleet is composed of 11 airplanes of varying prices and market worth.

Several public commentators –including Bayelsa state Senator Ben Bruce, and prominent lawyer, Olisa Agbakoba- have called on the Presidency to sell off some of the planes or convert them to passenger planes.

The Presidential Air Fleet (PAF) is comprised of two Falcon 7X jets, two Falcon 900 jets, a Gulfstream 550, one Boeing 737 BBJ (Nigerian Air Force 001 or Eagle One – the president’s official airplane), and a Gulfstream IVSP, one Gulfstream V, Cessna Citation 2 aircraft and Hawker Siddley 125-800 jet.

It would be recalled that the federal government under Goodluck Jonathan purchased an additional airplane in 2014, bringing to total number of jets to eleven.

The presidential air fleet employs a total of 37,595,182 persons.
