The US presidential election had been too close to call right from the start. The Republican candidate, Mitt Romney took it straight to the wires with the presidential of the United States, Barack Obama.
After the Mitt Romney concession speech, the wait was for Obama to make his acceptance speech which was finally done around 7:35am (Nigerian time).
He appeared with his wife, Michelle, and two daughters.
President Obama accepted the speech saying, “The Union moves forward because of you. We are an American family and we rise or fall as a nation.
“Tonight, in this election, we have fought our way back and we know in our hearts that for the United States of America, the best is yet to come.”
He spoke glowingly about Mitt Romney saying he has fought gallantly.
“I am looking forward to sitting down with Governor Romney to see how we can move this country forward.”
For his campaign team, he had nothing but appreciation. President Obama said, “I will forever be grateful for all you have done and what you have put in.
“Democracy in a country of 300m people is not easy, there are bound to be a difference of opinion, but we always have the opportunity to win our arguments… through the ballots.
“I return to the White House more experienced and more determined as ever before. Tonight, you voted for action and not talk. Together, we got more work to do.”
We are greater than the sum of our independent parts. We are, and forever will be the United States of America. God bless America.”
YNaija spoke to one of the revelers present in Chicago, Illinois, Ibiang Obeten, who said, “It has been an interesting election. I have never seen such a high number of baby-boomers vote, and Obama did a wonderful job converting Independents and even some Tea Party voters to Democrats. History will forever remember this,” he concluded.
For Barack Obama, it’s four more years!
