The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers on Tuesday accused Gov. Nyesom Wike to stop wasting taxpayers’ money on offsetting bills for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) convention.
This is contained in a statement issued in Port Harcourt by Mr Chris Finebone, Publicity Secretary of APC in the state.
The statement urged Wike not to spend government money on “jamborees”.
The APC said that Wike should focus on paying the salaries of working instead of funding the convention.
“Our worry heightens when we consider that PDP bills are humongous and Gov. Wike has elected himself to offset the bills with the funds of Rivers people running into billions of Naira.
“Sadly, South-South states and others have always acted the wise boys because their governors know that their peoples’ money should not be wasted on jamborees.
It added that “Civil servants, legislative aides, medical workers, teachers and other workers in different sectors in the State are groaning and protesting several months of unpaid salaries and wages.”
The APC reminded Wike that he has a responsibility of providing for Rivers people and ought not to be sponsoring the convention.
“National conventions are very expensive business, the cost run into billions of Naira. Gov. Wike has the responsibility to provide effective governance for the people.
“This he should do with the resources that belong to them and not to fritter billions of Naira belonging to Rivers people on the affairs of his party, the PDP,” the statement added.
