Afro hip hop act, Tekno, has called for the study of Fela Anikulapo-Kuti in Nigerian schools.

The budding singer, real names – Augustine Kelechi, says the legendary pioneer of Afrobeat, is “the root” of mordern day Nigerian music.

Therefore, Tekno, who is signed to Iyanya’s ‘Made Men Records’, says Fela’s story should be taught as part of history to Nigerian students.

In a recent interview with Vanguard, Tekno said: “I wouldn’t say Fela influenced me in one way or the other. He was the root of our music. The story of Fela should be taught in our schools as part of history. When you talk about music in Nigeria, you should talk about Fela. Even in death his legendary status lives. Fela changed our lives entirely.”

Furthermore, the artist says the songs he’s presently working on, are influenced by none other than Fela. “I’m currently working on some songs now that are literally influenced by Fela. I also did one with Wizkid which has Fela’s style on it,” Tekno added.
