Barely four weeks after, it seems Osinbajo’s visit to Ondo State was stage managed

Barely four weeks after the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo SAN visited Ondo state to launch the federal government sponsored Home Grown School Feeding Programme on the 4th of May 2018, feelers from the state are already suggesting that perhaps the Vice President’s visit was more sepulchural white washing than an actual fact finding mission. During the Vice President’s visit to Alagbaka Primary School Akure alongside the state Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, he launched the school feeding programme and he gladly ate out of the food with several photo-ops which was splashed on the internet.

According to him, new students in their numbers have registered in the school as a result of the school feeding programme. But new developments in the state clearly shows the visit and the school feeding especially was stage managed for the period of the visit either by the state government or the VPs office. Parents of the pupils in the state have accused the federal government of not being sincere as the visit of the VP was more of a gimmick to cajole the parents into believing the government was serious about providing basic feeding for disadvantaged students.

The aggrieved parents under the aegis of Concerned Parents of Primary School Pupils disclosed that most of the cooks employed for the Programme have stopped rendering their services. According to their spokesperson Mr. Ademola Folarin, he said “We have been monitoring the implementation of this initiative for the past two weeks and we can confirm to you that this Programme has been a failure in this state. Many of the cooks have stopped feeding the pupils claiming they had not been receiving money to prepare the food. They claimed that they were only managing with the little resources available to them”

The association also decried the poor quality of food being served to the pupils by the cooks. It is important the Vice President office look into this and make the necessary amendments.
