President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the scrapping of the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme (SURE-P).
Buhari also directed the Presidential Committee and workers of the agency to halt all operations.
The order was disseminated on Wednesday, via a letter sent to the SURE-P Committee from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Abba Kyari.
Buhari is believed to have also ordered a probe into the activities, funding and expenditure of SURE-P, since inception.
Meanwhile, on the same day, a motion calling for the probe of the utilisation of SURE-P funds was adopted by the Senate.
Babajide Omoworare, who sponsored the motion, said the probe should account for every amount spent on SURE-P and other poverty alleviation programmes by the Goodluck Jonathan administration.
