From his fighting days in the House of Representatives, to his flagrant display of flashy cars, down to the release of his hit track, “Ajekun Iya”, Melaye is one politician not afraid to make the spotlight.
During the week under review, the senator held a rally in his home state. The rally turned which turned violent was hijacked by hoodlums, leaving some persons feared dead. Following the clash, Melaye moved a motion on the floor of the Senate urging his colleagues to declare a state of emergency in Kogi. This motion by the Senator to many observers is geared towards crippling the authority of Kogi governor, Yahaya Bello, who Melaye has been engaged in a war of words with and he has also accused of being behind reported attempts to recall him from the red chamber.
The Senator took his battle with Bello one step further on Wednesday by calling Bello “a compound fool on cheap drugs”. Such utterances from someone who is supposed to be a “distinguished” personality is unacceptable and should not be supported by any right thinking person.
Senate President, Bukola Saraki retained his position as the best Nigerian Senator. Saraki who has been atop the ranking for the past three weeks, maintained his position when the Code of Conduct Tribunal cleared him of all 18 charges brought before it by the Federal Government.
