Ese Oruru says ‘I’m not fine’… as father plans to take her to TB Joshua’s church

Ese Rita Oruru, the Bayelsa teenager, who was allegedly abducted in August 2015 and taken to Kano by a certain Yunusa Yellow, was rescued on Monday night through the combined efforts of the Kano state police, Kano Emirate Council and Punch Newspapers.

The paper’s report on the issue led to a national coverage- which compelled the authorities to take action and secure her release.

On Tuesday, Ese as well as her alleged lover- Yunusa Yellow- were transported to Abuja by a Special Police team from Zone 1 headquarters, Kano.

In Abuja, Ese would on Wednesday(today), be handed over to her mother, Mrs. Oruru, who travelled by road from Bayelsa and couldn’t make it on time for a Tuesday reunion.

The case has sprung up series of controversies which culminated in two schools of thought- that she was indeed abducted and has now been brainwashed to the point where she doesn’t want to go back home… Or, she eloped, albeit unlawfully, with Yunusa Yellow to Kano.

Ahead of her prospective reunion with her mother, and subsequently, her family, Punch spoke with Ese and when asked how she was, her response was a terse one

“I am not fine”, she was quoted to have said.

EssesIn lieu of this, her father Charles Oruru, revealed to Vanguard newspapers, that he intends to seek spiritual assistance on behalf of Ese.

Charles, who believes that his daughter has been brainwashed, said he’d take her to popular cleric, Pastor T.B. Joshua, founder of The Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN).

Meanwhile, the Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganguje, has called for the prosecution of Yunusa Yellow, the alleged abductor of Ese.

Speaking through the state Commissioner for Information, Mallam Mohammed Garba, he said he was never aware of the issue till it became a major story.

“The government condemns the actions of the alleged abductor, as it is against the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and teachings of Islam which abhor abduction, forced marriage even with the consent of parents of a girl, be her a minor or adult, and forced conversion to Islam, as the Quran categorically states that ‘there is no compulsion in religion’.

“Security and other relevant agencies should expedite action to bring the suspect(s) to book according to the law.”
