FG alleges support of terrorists by foreign entities

Nigeria’s Information and Culture minister, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, on Monday, 4 January 2021 said some foreign elements including human rights groups like Amnesty International and the International Criminal Court are being used to frustrate the country’s efforts to deal with the Boko Haram menace.

Lai Mohammed alleged that threats of sanctions and other tactics being used to threaten and demoralise the nation’s military and security services show their interest in supporting the interest of terrorists and further put Nigeria’s security in jeopardy.

‘Mass hunger, Economic crisis’ – Private sector warns against fresh lockdown

The Manufacturers’ Association of Nigeria, the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry and prominent economists on Monday assessed Nigeria’s economic situation and inferred that another COVID-19 lockdown would result to mass hunger, malnutrition on Nigerians, and a disastrous economic crisis.

The groups stated this in reacting to a statement by the National Coordinator of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Dr Sani Aliyu, who had earlier stated that the Federal Government was considering all options, including lockdown, to battle the second wave of COVID-19.

COVID-19 offenders under travel ban cannot get new passports

The Comptroller-General, CG, Nigeria Immigration Service, Muhammad Babandede, has announced that the 100 travellers under travel restrictions cannot bypass the NIS system to obtain new passports.

The CG explained that the automated system would automatically detect and raise alarm if violators applied for passport re-issuance. The NIS boss made the explanation following concerns that the violators whose passports had been seized might attempt to obtain new passports and sneak out of the country.

Sexual harassment: Police to carry on investigation on Abiodun Abudu-Balogun

The Ogun State Police Command has stated that it will carry on with the investigation into allegations of sexual harassment against the state Commissioner for Environment, Abiodun Abudu-Balogun, by a 16-year-old girl, Barakat Melojuekun.

Police spokesperson, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, Edward Ajogun, had ordered that the case be transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department at the Police Headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta.

Uber: Robbers guns down driver, steal car

A driver of a ride-hailing service, Tade, was alleged to be shot by armed robbers around Badore in the Ajah area of Lagos State.

Information gathered from reports points that a yet-to-be-identified passenger requested Tade’s service to convey him to a destination. On arrival, three armed men waylaid him and while attempting to dispossess him of the car and other valuables, they allegedly shot him twice.
