Lesley Nneka Arimah

Unless you’ve been living under a rock or you’re one of those people who don’t ‘like books’, then you’ve probably heard of Lesley Nneka Arimah. The Nigerian-American writer literally took the world by storm with her first short story anthology “What It Means When A Man Falls From The Sky” which included Commonwealth Prize winning story “Light”, and Caine Prize shortlisted story “Who Will Greet You At Home”. Her short story anthology has been on many literary best lists and she has become something of a cultural icon.  And now her stories are coming to the big screen.

Arimah just announced via her Twitter that after a year of negotiations, agreements have been finalized between her agent and renowned Hollywood director Alfonso Gomez-Rejon, who has optioned “Who Will Greet You At Home” her unsettling short story about a world without men where women create children by weaving or crafting them from inorganic materials. The story was first published the New Yorker and was shortlisted for the 2017 Caine Prize. Arimah says she doesn’t know if the optioned story will be made into a feature film or expanded into a proper television series, on that part we’ll just have to wait and see.

Arimah joins Chimamanda Adichie, Chinua Achebe and Nnedi Okorafor, a small group of Nigerian authors whose work has made it to the big screen.

We cannot wait.
