Finally, Donald Trump will meet his bestie Vladmir Putin

White House National Security adviser H.R. McMaster said Thursday that President Donald Trump will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin during a G20 summit scheduled for next week in Germany, Politico reports.

Both world leaders will speak on the sidelines and not the expected formal separate meeting. This quells mounting speculation over whether the two would meet while in Germany. According to reports, McMaster said there was no “specific agenda” for the meeting.

The relations between both world leaders are almost frosty following the continuous rhetoric that Russia interfered in the 2016 elections and also the civil war in Syria where Russia backs President Bashar al-Assad, while the United States backs rebel groups trying to overthrow Assad. In April, the U.S pushed by launching missile strikes against a Syrian government airbase.

According to Huffington Post, German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel told Putin on Thursday that Germany hoped to bring him together with Trump at the summit.
