‘Ekiti workers can be paid salaries but Fayose is incompetent and insincere’

Governor of Ekiti state, Ayodele Fayose has been described as grossly incompetent and lacking in creativity by a former commissioner of Finance of the state, Dapo Kolawole – traits which the commissioner claimed is responsible for the continued downturn of the economy of the state.

Kolawole, the commissioner of finance for Ekiti state between 2010 and 2014 during the administration of Kayode Fayemi, spoke to the press in Abuja today.

Kolawole blamed Fayose for the economic fix in which the state is in.

He  said that if the current government had the creativity and capacity to lead during critical times, then Ekiti would not be neck-deep in arrears owed to workers.

Kolawole noted that despite the unpleasantness of the economy, Ekiti could still afford to pay 3 months salaries if Fayose had handled the situation properly thereby reducing the strain on the 5 months arrears owed.

The former commissioner said if Fayose was sincere, he could have paid salaries from refunds and palliatives received by the government.

“But what do we have in Ekiti. We have someone who never promised anything, so could not deliver anything.”, said Kolawole, who added that Fayose lacks the required capacity to lead at critical moment.”

Kolawole however, confirmed that Fayemi did take loans while he was in government but the loans were already structured to be pid back in 7 years.

“Yes we took a bond of N25billion, and the repayment plan was well structured. 50 percent of the loan was regenerative and 50 per cent social infrastructure like road, bridges and water projects. And the repayment was tied to some specific receipts from the federation account.”
