Gunmen kidnap 20 women in Borno, Rivers High Court bombed & other important news you should know today

Suspected Boko Haram gunmen have reportedly kidnapped 20 women from a nomadic settlement in Borno State near the town of Chibok, where the Islamic militants abducted more than 300 schoolgirls and young women on April 15.

Alhaji Tar, a member of the vigilante groups set up to resist Boko Haram’s attacks, said the men arrived at noon Thursday in the Garkin Fulani settlement and forced the women to enter their vehicles at gunpoint. He says they drove away to an unknown location in the remote stretch of Borno state. Read more….

Rivers High Court bombed 

A High Court in Ahoada, Ahoada East Local Government area of Rivers State, southern Nigeria, was bombed in the early hours of Monday 9 June.

Court files and property worth millions of naira were destroyed but no life was lost.

The bombing of the Ahoada High Court is coming four months after a bomb blast rocked the High Court causing substantial damage to a section of the court. Read more….

50 terrorists die As troops avert raid on communities

In the latest in a series of firefights with the Boko Haram, the Nigerian Military issued a press release that suggests they have won the latest skirmish in confronting the group in recent days. The release, issued by Chris Olukolade, Major General and the Director of Defense Information issued this statement.

“Troops conducting (the) anti-terrorists campaign in North-Eastern Nigeria have successfully averted (an) attempted massive raid on villages in Borno, and Adamawa States, during the weekend. The terrorists who were on their way to attack selected communities, were ambushed by troops along Biita, in Borno State, on receiving (an) intelligence report of the terrorists’ intention (s). Nigerian government inaugurates new trains, coaches in Lagos

The Federal Government on Monday in Lagos reiterated its commitment to boost rail transportation with a promise to provide more infrastructure.

President Goodluck Jonathan disclosed this during the official inauguration of two Diesel Multiple Units (DMUs) train sets and six air-conditioned passenger coaches at the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) Terminus. Read more….

APC members slump during inauguration 

Some members of the Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Monday slumped at the 12 June Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta, during the inauguration of the new executive of the party.

Those who slumped were those who could not find a place to sit inside the auditorium of the Cultural Centre. They were quickly rushed to the hospital.
