‘He threatened her with a knife’ – Mechanic arraigned for raping 13-year-old girl

A 38-year-old auto mechanic, Michael Bonoba appeared before an  Apapa Chief Magistrate’s Court in Lagos on Monday, for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl.

Narrating to the court, the prosecutor, Soji Ojaokomo said the accused who resides at Ijegun area of Satelite Town, Lagos, allegedly committed the offence on Jan. 2.

Ojaokomo said the accused lured the girl into his apartment with the intent of having carnal knowledge of her.

Leadership Newspapers reports:

“The accused threatened the complainant with a knife in order to have sex with her,” he told the court.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened section 56 and 137 of the Criminal Code, Lagos State, 2011.

Section 137 stipulates life imprisonment for convicted offenders.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Oluyemisi Adelaja, granted the accused bail for N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Adelaja adjourned the case to Feb. 3 for mention.
