“Things Fall Apart,” a book by a legendary Nigerian author, Chinua Achebe, is set to be adapted into a TV series starring British actor Idris Elba and David Oyelowo.

According to Variety, the TV series adaptation of “Things Fall Apart” is said to currently be in production at A24, although there is no writer assigned to the project, nor has the streaming platform been announced so far.
British actor Idris Elba and Gina Carter are both the executive producers of the upcoming series under their newly launched production company “22Summers,” David Oyelowo and Amanda N’duka will be executive producers through Yoruba Saxon, and Ben Forkner, Achebe Masterworks, and Dayo Ogunyemi are also executive producers.
Though there is no release date or actors announced yet, Nigerians have taken to X (formerly Twitter) to express their displeasure over the TV series adaptation falling into the hands of black people who aren’t Nigerian or speak the necessary Nigerian language to make it realistic.
Nigerians have requested that Idris Elba and David Oyelowo cast Nigerian actors who would best fit the roles of the characters in Chinua Achebe’s book.

The book “Things Fall Apart,” is regarded as one of the world’s best-written books with over 60 language translations; it tells the story of a courageous Nigerian warrior and leader who stands against British colonists to preserve his culture and people.
