POLICE HANDOUT
Neighbor and parolee Paul Johnson is accused of killing Chicago jewelry designer Lisa Koziol-Ellis in her Elgin, Ill. home.
An ex-con out on parole used a screwdriver to stab a Chicago jewelry designer to death in her own home as he went to steal a DVD player, police have said.
Paul Johnson, 34, is accused of attacking 33-year-old Lisa Koziol-Ellis in a bloody frenzy after breaking into her Elgin, Ill. apartment on March 2.
He is then alleged to have returned in a bid to clean up the crime scene.
The horrific murder left the suburban community in shock, and led friends and family to raise a $15,000 reward for the arrest of her attacker.

Cops now believe the killer was Johnson, a neighbor and a parolee who had just served 18 months of a four-year stretch for robbery.
The Chicago Tribune reports that Johnson thought that the apartment would be “a ripe target” as Koziol-Ellis had just moved in with her husband.
It was the husband, Dash Ellis, who found his wife’s blood-stained lifeless body upon returning from work at 2:30 a.m.
Johnson, who has a string of previous convictions, was arrested and charged with murder on Friday. He is being held on $5 million bail and faces up to 100 years in prison if found guilty.
