A Zamfara lawmaker had no qualms revealing to journalists that he threw a ‘hard punch’ on the forehead of the driver of the state governor, over ‘a girl’.

The Majority Leader in the Zamfara State House of Assembly, Salisu Musa Tsafe on Tuesday, got into a physical altercation with the senior driver to the state governor, Malam Idris, because of a female shop owner.

While reporting himself to the press, Tsafe said he wasn’t romantically involved with the female in question, stressing that all that was between them is strictly business.

He said: “I had called on Sunday from Kaduna to inform her of my trip to Gusau the next day, and she pleaded that we should meet, especially to discuss about the money she owes me.

On the day of the meeting, he claims that when he got the girl’s shop in Tudun Wada, Gusau, he found her with the governor’s driver in his car.

He continued: “The driver then left, but a few minutes later, he returned and started pouring insults on me over what he described as my illegitimate engagement with his presumed wife. I replied him by saying that she was not my girlfriend and we had no affair but were only business partners.”

Tsafe said he was reluctant to get into a fight with Malam Idris, even as he continued to attack him verbally. He added that Idris eventually challenged him to a fight in the bush, to which he acquiesced to and they drove off together.

“He parked as he reached the Low Cost Housing Estate, came out of his car and started shouting at me. I did same to him and he began to fiercely charge at me, so I had to fight back in self-defence. He bit my finger and I gave him a hard punch on his forehead,” he added.

Speaking further, the lawmaker said that the Assistant Commissioner of Police in-charge of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at the state headquarters has intervened into the matter, warning the driver that he had no right to stop the girl from mixing with other people, as he’s yet to pay her bride price.
