Can we give Lupita an award already!? She has been in three of the top ten grossing films of all time: Black Panther, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Also, let’s not forget her Oscar-winning performance in 12 Years A Slave. As if this talented actress didn’t already win over our hearts (and wallets!), now she’s set to star in a remake of The Killer, one of John Woo’s most legendary films.

John Woo, who has helmed action classics in the US such as Face Off and Mission Impossible 2 (amongst a long list of astounding films from overseas as well) wants to make the remake The Killer with a female lead. Hong Kong actor Chow Yun-fat starred in the original back in 1989, which was a film about an assassin who accidentally blinds a bystander while performing his last hit. Filled with remorse, the assassin takes one last mission to help the victim pay for surgery to help repair the damaged eye tissue, but things get complicated along the way.

I think Woo saw enough of Lupita’s stunts and skills in Black Panther to make her his top choice. And, also, it’s a good thing she’s black. Production for The Killer will begin later this year in Germany and France and we can’t wait!
