The corruption trial of the National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Olisa Metuh, was on Wednesday, adjourned over his ill health.
Metuh, who is facing a seven-count charge of fraud at an Abuja Federal High Court, was in court despite the fact that he fell off his chair during the inauguration of the Borno and Kebbi state executive of the party on Tuesday.
The PDP spokesperson is facing trial for alleged diversion of N400 million which was part of the $2.1 billion arms deal fund.
Speaking to newsmen after the adjournment, Metuh stated that he had defied his doctors orders to be in court.
He stated that: “If I am not here my bail conditions may be revoked and I don’t want that; but I have been here for three hours and we haven’t started. That’s why my lawyers asked for an adjournment.”
“The doctor did not want to release me, but I insisted. No matter the condition I cannot wait to defend myself.”
His case was adjourned by the trial judge to allow Metuh recover his health. The trial is expected to commence on May 17.
