The body of an avid serpent collector was discovered more than a week after he went missing, with 46 of his pet snakes still in the home. Among his collection was a 26-foot-long anaconda and four 29-foot pythons.
The lifeless corpse of avid serpent collector Heiko R, 40, was discovered — more than a week after he went missing — at his house in Straubing on Wednesday.
A 26-foot-long anaconda and four 29-foot pythons were among 46 of the reptiles seen slithering around the property.
“One was as thick as a human thigh,” said a firefighter at the scene.
Neighbors said they were surprised his pets had not started to devour their owner.
But experts said his large frame meant his body was too wide to be swallowed whole.
“They like to eat their prey whole and the average European is too long and too wide for that,” said Markus Baur, boss of the animals’ new reptile home in Munich.
Authorities think he died of natural causes, reports The Local.
An autopsy is scheduled for later this week.
