As cinemas remain closed because of the coronavirus pandemic, we have had to depend on streaming services like Neflix. With the platform’s official arrival into the Nigerian market and forging ties with the film industry, we have seen a high flux of Nollywood movies on Netflix recently. This month isn’t any different. Here are six Nollywood titles you should check out.

Fix Us – August 2

Fix Us tells the story three young ladies who take on a journey of faith and fate. When Naadie , Chioma and Jaya run into each other at an audition, they are bound by their common dream to be movie stars and form a friendship that can hardly be broken. But when their dreams are eventually actualized, they soon realize that they want even something more from life. Something more that money cannot buy. Something more that fame cannot give. Something more that they must find for themselves. Directed by Pascal Amanfo, the movie stars Yvonne Nelson, Yvonne Okoro, Alexandre Amon and Tobi Bakre, Mofe Duncan.

Ayamma – August 3

Set in a fictitious village somewhere in Ibibio land in Akwa Ibom State, Ayamma is an afro musical film that tells the story of Prince Daraima (Wole Ojo), the fascinating heir to Obong Ikpaisong, who repeatedly dreams of Ihuoma (Adesua Etomi-Wellington), poor but radiating maiden whose beauty is matched only by her voice.

Sin City – August 5 

In this Pascal Amanfo-directed dramedy, a busy couple tries to give their love life a boost by taking an impromptu weekend trip only to find their relationship tested in unexpected ways. Sin City stars Kunle Remi, Yvonne Nelson, and Adjetey Anang.

 

Diamonds in the sky – August 7

In Diamonds in the Sky, directed by Kunle Afolayan, three families navigate uncertainty and struggle when cancer affects their lives and presents emotional challenges that test their bonds. Released in 2018, the film stars Toyin Abraham, Joke Silva and Omowunmi Dada.

 

Nigerian Prince – August 14 

Faraday Okoro‘s Nigerian Prince follows the story of Eze, a stubborn, first-generation Nigerian-American teenager and his cousin Pius, who is a desperate Nigerian Prince scammer. After Eze’s mother sends him to Nigeria against his will, Eze retaliates by teaming up with Pius to scam unsuspecting foreigners in order to earn money for a return ticket back to America.

Executive produced by Spike Lee and Sam Pollard, Nigerian Prince was first released in American cinemas in 2018, and it’s great to see it on Netflix for a Nigerian audience. Nigerian Prince stars Antonio J Bell, Chinaza Uche, Bimbo Manuel, Dean Cameron, Tina Mba and Craig Stott.

 

Meet the In-Laws – August 18

In Meet the In-Laws, A yoruba man falls in love with an Igbo woman and gets engaged to her. This idea doesn’t go down well with their parents. Together, they must figure a way out or loose what they’ve worked for. Written by Rita Onwurah, the movie is produced by AMVCA winner Victoria Akujuobi, and directed by Niyi Akinmolayan, who is popular for movies like Out of Luck and Falling.
