Ondo state governor, Olusegun Mimiko has said that President Goodluck Jonathan will get the South-West votes at the presidential election of February 2015.
On Tuesday, December 16, Mimiko stated that even if the All Progressive Congress (APC) fields a yoruba as Muhammadu Buhari’s running, President Goodluck Jonathan will sweep the votes of the South West.
He said this while speaking at the Presidential Villa where Jonathan launched the Youth Employment in Agriculture Programme (YEAP) and the Find for Agricultural Finance in Nigeria (FAFIN).
According to Mimiko, Southwest voters are politically enlightened to cast their votes based on issues and not on ethnic considerations.
He said: “I am saying this with all sense of humility, of enlightenment especially in appreciation of issues of politics, in terms of long history of progressive political engagement, you give it to Southwest that they know their onions.
“Don’t forget that even in 2012 when Mr. President did not have any governor in the Southwest, he won in all the Southwest states apart from one. And I tell you, in the Southwest, we can sift issues from propaganda. We know the difference between propaganda and the real stuff.”
“What we have seen today is real stuff. Everybody that was at this presentation cannot but come to the conclusion that the transformation agenda of Mr. President in agriculture is working. Again, this is real stuff; not propaganda. And I tell you, in the Southwest, this election will be about real stuff, it’s about issues not about propaganda.”
“I have no doubt in my mind that the Southwest will vote for President Jonathan to continue along this path of very useful engagement and productive governance”, Mimiko added.
