‘One-chance’ robbery gang caught red-handed in Calabar

A robbery gang was was recently apprehended by the police in Calabar, Cross River State. Reports say the robbers specialize in dispossessing unsuspecting victims of their belongings by disguising as commercial taxi operators.

The robbers were caught by a patrol team around the Mary Slessor Area of the city when they were in the process of stealing from a man identified as Umo Duke.

Three of them were arrested while one reportedly escaped.

The robbers, who operated in a blue Volkswagen Vento car, with registration number, JI 502PHC, were about to escape with their loot when they were apprehended by a police patrol team.

Police spokesman, DSP John Umoh said the robbers diverted the victim to the Zoo Garden area where he was robbed. Duke subsequently raised an alarm which attracted men of the patrol team who apprehended the robbers.

The police spokesman identified the three nabbed robbery suspects as, Uche Okafor, Godwin Obiozor and Ebere Offia.

He said the state police command would not relent in its efforts at eradicating crime in Cross River, and advised residents of Calabar to assist the police by providing useful information that would aid the force to effectively tackle criminals in the state.
