An examinations preparatory and e-testing platform; Pass.ng that helps students prepare for major exams in Nigeria supported by Airtel and 440NG, has announced that it wants to reward its top 10 users, who excelled in this year’s UTME JAMB at the maiden edition of Pass.ng Excellence Award.
The excellence award will hold on December 4 at Sovitel hotel, The MoorHouse, ikoyi Lagos.
Speaking on the awards, the Chief Executive Officer, Pass.ng, Samson Abioye said the aim of the award is to underscore the importance of excellence in education to national development.
“The excellence awards is geared towards rewarding our users who not only made us proud but did excellently well in this year’s UTME JAMB. This year, about 1.5 million students wrote UTME and a 100,000 of them used our platform to prepare for the exam. We are glad to say that over 60 per cent scored 200 and above. This is a remarkable achievement. We hope to increase this figure yearly.
“With the excellence award, we hope to encourage students to be committed towards hard work and diligence, especially in the pursuit of their careers. We believe the award will create a healthy competition among students and also reduce massive failure rate experienced yearly in the UTME exams,” he said.
Also the Product Manager, Pass.ng, Imole Oluyemi, said the excellence award would rekindle students’ love for academic excellence.
“We want this to be the very catalyst of change for a complete overhaul of our education system. The celebration is not just for the urban setting; we are looking at celebrating students who live in remote villages. We believe this will have a domino effect on the education system,” he said.
Also the Community Manager, Pass.ng, Akanji Abayomi, urged students to remain focused on their academics and that now is the time for them to sow in tears so they can reap joyful fruits in future.
The Technology Head, Pass.ng, Joshua Adegbabgo Adegbagbo said, “Beauty pageants and other shows seem to have taken the attention of students. We hope this award can steer up the creative and explorative minds of students. We want them to know that it pays to work hard.”
Abioye hoped that the top 10 students will serve as role models to other students. They will each be awarded prices including laptops and scholarship for overall best.
