Saraki’s CCT trial pushed forward… again

The Code of Conduct Tribunal has rescheduled the resumption of the trial of the Senate President, Bukola Saraki from Thursday, March 10 to Friday, March 11.
Saraki has been charged with 13 counts of false declaration of assets and the trial was set to commence on Thursday, March 10 after the Supreme Court threw out Saraki’s bid to stop the CCT from going ahead with the trial on February 5.
The Head, Press and Public Relations of the CCT, Ibraheem Al-hassan however, revealed in a statement on Tuesday, March 1 that the date of the trial had been pushed forward to Friday, March 11 following a request from Saraki’s new lawyer, Kanu Agabi (SAN).
Saraki’s lawyer, according to Agabi had requested the trial to be shifted by a day because he had urgent matters to see to in other courts on the previously designated Thursday, March 10.
Agabi’s request was contained in a letter to the CCT dated Friday, February 28.
The statement quoted Agabi’s letter saying: “I write as lead counsel to the above defendant to apply that the matter which is now scheduled to come up on the 10th day of March 2016, subject to the convenience of the Honorable Tribunal and learned counsel for the prosecution, be taken on the 11th day of March, 2016, due to my earlier and urgent commitments in other courts on the 10th.”
The letter ended with an apology for the inconvenience caused to the honorable tribunal and other learned counsel from Agabi according to Al-hassan.
“I will sincerely appreciate the indulgence of the Tribunal to accommodate me in this way.”
