A bank and a police station has been attacked by men suspected to be armed robbers at Iyara Community in Ijumu LGA of Kogi State.
A policeman reportedly lost his life in the attack which happened on Friday night.
According to Premium Times, the robbers who started the robbery operation at about 9:45pm made the Iyara branch of a new generation bank their prime target shooting sporadically into the air to scare residents.
After killing a policeman on guard at the bank, the robbers were said to have gained access to the bank’s ‘strong-room’ utilizing high-powered explosives before carting away an unspecified amount of money from the vault.
The daredevil robbers headed straight to the area Divisional Police Station to launch an attack on the Police Anti-Terrorist Squad where the met with stiff resistance.
According to observers, the attack was in an apparent bid to loot the police armoury, a plan which was foiled by the alertness of the policemen.
Ile Simon, the spokesman of the Kogi State police command, confirmed the incident but could not ascertain the number of casualties involved in the attack.
He said, “We cannot say for now, all we got from there is that they attacked the bank and our station and there was exchange of fire”.
