The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) is set to employ the expertise of police forensic experts to confirm the signature of the Nigerian Nationwide League chairman, Ahmed Kawu on the impeachment notice served to former president, Aminu Maigari.

Maigari was last week served a vote-of-no-confidence notice by 8 of the 13 board members alleging secrecy in the management of the federation’s funds, failure to call a board meeting in eight months, reign of a cabal within the board, financial misappropriation, misapplication and maladministration, among other things.

Kawu, who was reported to have been among the 8 who signed have denied ever signing the notice, stating that his signature was forged, a statement which has been described by an NFF board member Effiong Johnson as “childish and regrettable,” adding that “Kawu is not man enough to face Maigari and tell him that he willingly supported his impeachment.”

“Kawu should just shut-up because nobody forced him to sign and nobody has ever forged his signature, he is just being childish by accusing people and claiming that he was forced to sign.

“Very soon the board will invite the police for a forensic test on the signatures of all the members that signed, so he should shut up. If he believes that Maigari, the former president of the NFF was his godfather or if he was a member of the cabal, he wouldn’t have signed the document but we did what we did in the interest of Nigerian football,” Johnson added.

After the signing of the communiqué, the names of the signatories were made public, which could have led to the present stand of Kawu.

However, an NFF official has stated that it is not yet time for those who want Maigari out of the Glasshouse to celebrate because the impeachment was not properly carried out in line with the Statutes of the Federation.

According to the official, who pleaded anonymity, the action of the board members ran contrary to the rules which he said demands that there must be a two-third of the board or congress members before an impeachment could be said to be valid. He also noted Kawu’s stand on not signing the impeachment notice.

“Let me tell you that Kawu is strongly insisting that his signature was forged and if that is true, it then means that only seven people carried out the impeachment and that was not enough to impeach the president because it was not up to the required two-third. According to Article: 37 (4) of the NFF Statutes (2010) which states that a motion for removal must be supported by two-third of the members.”
