An unidentified middle-aged man has been critically injured in a multiple accident involving 2 tricycles and two 504 Peugeot in Umuahia, Abia State.
It was reported that the victim was seen receiving treatment at the Accident/Emergency Unit of the Federal Medical Centre in Umuahia when newsmen visited the hospital.
The doctor in charge of the case who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the victim sustained serious injury while riding one of the tricycles popularly referred to as ‘keke’.
According to reports:
The victim had just taken delivery of the tricycle and was heading home with the drivers of two other new tricycles when the accident occurred. Some people in the area who witnessed the accident, attributed it to “excessive speed.’’
The driver of the Peugeot saloon car with registration number Abia 8ABSG, who identified himself simply as Chukwudi, said the accident occurred when he attempted to dodge a pedestrian, who was crossing the road.
“In my attempt to avoid hitting the man, my car hit an oncoming 504 Station Wagon with registration No. Lagos AKD 627XG’’, said Chukwudi, who was at the bed side the victim.
At the scene of the accident, three police officers, including one ASP Ekwo, were seen removing the damaged vehicles.
