These are the top ten stories that drove conversation this week.

A number of Nigerians stranded in Libya have recounted their stories of the suffering they have had to endure until they returned to Nigeria.

The most disturbing revelation is that Nigerians are the ones behind the sale of their fellow Nigerians into slavery.

Although, it does not matter who does it, what matters is: Why is slavery still a thing in 2017?

Meanwhile, the Federal Government has released emergency numbers for stranded Nigerians in Libya.


In an interview, the intending President, Atiku Abubakar, said President Buhari was banned from entering the U.S. for some years before he became Nigeria’s leader but, in a swift reaction, the Presidency denied such claims, saying it is just a “fictitious concoction”, considering he (Atiku) was the one that was banned from entering the U.S.


Insurgency is nowhere near its end.

The UK, US warned its citizens of a planned attack by Boko Haram terrorists in Abuja and six other states.

The Nigerian Police confirmed the attack, saying measures have been put in place to ensure neutralisation of the attacks.


As he joined the PDP, Atiku Abubakar said he will definitely defeat any other candidate in the 2019 elections – especially President Buhari.

Buhari’s aide, in response, says he (Atiku) cannot win an election even in his local government.

His intention to run for Presidency in 2019, that is Atiku came with these words: “PDP is the only party in this country. All those who left should return home like I did….we want to tell Nigerians that we have learnt from our mistakes.”

Also, the Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of the PDP, Ahmed Makarfi has urged Atiku to help the party return to power in 2019.

Visiting Kano, however, President Buhari appraised the crowd that came out to meet him, saying he would win the election again. He also freed 500 inmates, vowing to clear prisons of innocent citizens.


The Nigerian Police through the PRO, Jimoh Moshood reacted to the #EndSARS campaign on Twitter.

Moshood said there was no way the Police would scrap the Police Unit as there were doing a great job and the allegations against them were most likely from thieves themselves. Also, that the originator of the campaign is being investigated.

The Police IG, Ibrahim Idris, however, ordered an immediate restructuring of SARS.

Meanwhile, Senator Isah Misau has said that his constituents have come forward with stories of how SARS Operatives are used to intimidate political opponents, asking the Nigerian Senate to begin probe of the Police Unit.


While queues are growing at petrol stations in Lagos and Abuja, NNPC has said there is no plan to increase fuel price.

The Federal Executive Council have, however, mandated the NNPC boss, Maikanti Baru and the Minister of State for Petroleum, Ibe Kachikwu to clear the queues before next week.

In another development, PENGASSAN has threatened to go on strike.


The Nigerian Bobsled team, who made history, got featured on Ellen. And, Ellen Degeneres herself said she was so glad to have had them around.


The Imo governor, Rochas Okorocha, swore in 28 new Commissioners and included a peculiar Ministry, headed by his sister, Mrs Ogechi Ololo.

The new Commissioner for Happiness and Purpose Fulfilment has since said that the people of Imo are happy with the development and would benefit a lot from it.

Okorocha’s media aide reiterated that.


Nigerian singer, Kiss Daniel is currently engaged in a legal battle with his former label, G Worldwide entertainment.

The record label said the singer breached the seven-year contract and also used his stage name, “Kiss Daniel” which belongs to them.

In reaction, Kiss Daniel’s lawyers said it is “laughable” that G Worldwide would claim to own his name.


Former military president, Ibrahim Babangida received Atiku Abubakar in his home in Minna – in closed doors.

Dismissing media reports that the former president did not endorse Atiku for 2019 Presidency, Babangida media aide said his boss would never stop anyone from trying to be elected to political positions.
